Response to the November 8th Restaurant Boycott

Dear PICC members and friends,

We are writing to ask for your help this coming Sunday, November 8th.

A local cycling group has publicly announced a "boycott ride" through Rittenhouse Square for 11:30AM on Sunday, November 8th. The flyer targets six neighborhood food establishments by name, and it frames the campaign around the identity and perceived views of their owners as “Zionist Establishments,” with the stated aim that these businesses "must go."

These are small businesses that employ our neighbors and feed our community:

  • K'Far Cafe

  • Huda

  • Mac Mart

  • Goldie

  • Dizengoff

  • Schlesinger's

The Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (PICC) believes that every business owner in our city deserves to operate without being singled out and pressured because of who they are. Disagreement over politics is part of civic life. Campaigns to drive local businesses out of the city are not.

How you can help before, on, and after November 8th (NOTE: Not all of these businesses may be open on the 8th):

  1. Have lunch or dinner at one or more of these establishments, or order takeout or delivery.

  2. Bring friends, family and colleagues.

  3. Leave a positive review or share a favorite dish on social media.

  4. Tell the owners and staff that you appreciate them.

We ask that everyone keep this peaceful and respectful. Please do not confront the ride or its participants. The best response is simply to show up, eat well, and support our neighbors.

If you witness or experience threats or harassment, please call 911 if anyone is in immediate danger. Please also report the incident to us so we can follow up and support those affected.

The PICC is an independent, member-based, not-for-profit network of business professionals who share an interest in furthering business relationships among each other and between the Greater Philadelphia Region and Israel.

Please forward this message to anyone who would like to join us.

Thank you for your support.

David Baker, President

Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce
